Annual New London Event Benefits Health Programs
The 7th Annual ThedaCare Foundation-New London Sturgeon Shuffle continues its mission to raise money to be used to support local community programs that improve the health and well-being of the communities. “This is a great event to get the entire family out to focus on a fun fitness activity,” said Heather Stern, executive director of the Foundation. “It's always a fun-filled day for all who attend.”
The event on Sat., April 23, is a competitive 10K and 5K run and walk for all athletes, from the serious racer to those who want to go the distance. “We have whole families participate, pets too,” said Stern. “The atmosphere for the event is always exciting.”
The 10K course will run along County X, west of New London, paralleling the Wolf River. The 5K will utilize the trails through Hatten Park. The return portion of the course will take the runners and walkers along the Sturgeon Trail, a paved trail. Historically this time of year is the unique running of the sturgeon.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. at New London Middle School and the race starts at 9:30 a.m. The early bird entry fee is $27.50 for an individual, $16.50 for age 14 and under and $86 for a team of 4. The fee increases after April 1.
Chip timing will be used for all participants. Strollers and pets are permitted. Packet pick up will be Fri., April 22, from 4-6 p.m. at New London Middle School.
Refreshments will be available after the race. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each age division. There will also be a team awards for the top finishing teams time and an award for the best team costume. “This event would not be possible without the incredible support of all of our sponsors,” said Stern.
