“It’s all about adopting a positive lifestyle for a long and energized life.”
I started having chest pains in the middle of the night. I had been doing yardwork that day and thought I pulled something. My wife was recovering from a heart attack from the week before so I drove myself to the ER in Neenah. The nurse there told me, “We take chest pain very seriously here.” And by golly they did. They hooked me up to all the machines, did an EKG, ran a blood test, and found that I had had a heart attack.
Once at the hospital, I underwent more tests. It was determined I needed catheterization and a stent which they inserted that very afternoon. The whole experience was terrific. I never had any real pain, just discomfort, and the communication throughout the stay was so helpful.
After the heart attack, I realized I needed to make some changes in how I was living my days. I eliminated a lot of the sugars and carbs, reduced red meats and salt, and am eating more fruits and vegetables. I’ve combined my improved diet with an exercise regimen of cardio, biking, treadmill, weights, and stretching. After just five weeks of a better diet and exercise, and with help from the terrific rehab program in Appleton, I dropped 22 pounds and have more all-day energy. It’s a very exciting time because I feel like I have a completely new life.
