“I thought I’d never be able to walk again or ever enjoy walking again, but I can walk just as good now as I did when I was 20. They gave me my whole life back.” — Hugh
Taking two to three-hour walks outdoors is my hobby. Yet walking has also been a big part of my career. For 33 years in my position with the water department, I walked 8 to 10 hours a day, then retired and came back to work for the city in parking enforcement where again I walk. My knees never really bothered me until last spring.
I was just walking along and both knees began hurting at the same time. It got progressively worse as the weeks went on until one day my right knee just gave out right there on the street. A month later, the exact same thing happened in the left knee. The X-rays showed minimal arthritis but the MRI told a different story entirely. There were two to three ligament tears, meniscus damage, and severe advanced osteoarthritis in both knees.
Dr. Conrad replaced my right knee then did my left knee about six weeks later. I was back at work walking full days in just two months after my second knee surgery. Dr. Conrad and his assistant Jon Berge were fantastic. Having physical therapy in Neenah was also a nice convenience and the therapists there were phenomenal.
