Community Health Network in Berlin, along with the Community Blood Center, Inc. have partnered for years to bring a blood drive to this area. Both organizations are very thankful to those that have donated in the past, and those that will continue to donate in the future.

The planning and coordinating of these blood drives takes a special someone. Recently recognized with the “Holiday Heroes Appreciation” Award was Terri Vande Kolk, who has been the blood drive coordinator at CHN for the past 15 years. “I do it because I know the good that it does for others in need,” said Vande Kolk. “Every blood drive is lifesaving, and the donors who come back time after time are who should be recognized,” she added.

Teaming up with Community Blood Center is important, as they provide 100% of the blood to 18 local hospitals, including Berlin Memorial Hospital. “All the blood collected stays right here in our area, so by donating you are truly helping a neighbor, family member, or friend,” said Vande Kolk. Each blood donation from one individual can help up to three people in need.

The Community Blood Center recognized the efforts of Vande Kolk, and stated “We appreciate the time and resources of your organization by helping to ensure patients receive the blood supply they need. Your ability to motivate others to volunteer and donate blood has resulted in a significant increase to our inventory level.”

The efforts put forth by Vande Kolk, as well as all volunteers, along with each and every donor, all contribute to the successful blood drives. As you look ahead in the new year, consider donating blood and helping save a life!
