BLOOD DRIVE HONORS LONGTIME DONOR

ThedaCare and The Community Blood Center Team Up for Lisa Gerrits Memorial Blood Drive

WAUPACA, Wis. – Those who knew Lisa Gerrits remember her as a generous person, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. In her memory, a memorial blood drive has been created, set to take place this summer.

Lisa Gerrits was an avid blood donor. She had a personal goal to donate a specific number of units of blood in her lifetime. After an illness, her health declined to the point that she could no longer donate. In 2018, a blood drive took place in her honor and all the donations from the day counted toward her goal, which was met and surpassed. She was presented with a plaque marking her donation achievement.

Sadly, Lisa Gerrits passed away in August 2018. Her family and friends continue to remember her generosity.

“Lisa was a selfless person, always thinking of others,” said Jane Shea, the ThedaCare Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and Lisa’s friend. “Hosting the blood drive last year and donating on her behalf was a way that we could continue her kindness.”

The Community Blood Center will be holding another blood drive this summer to honor Lisa. The public is invited to attend and donate.
