As told by Alex’s Mother, Yvonne
Alex first came to me and said, “I need to see a doctor. I think there's something wrong.” He would not tell me what was wrong, just that he wanted to see a doctor. I took him to our family doctor, Dr. Lamb.
Alex began seeing Dr. Lamb weekly and after seeing him for a while, he recommended Alex see a mental health specialist. I did not think my son needed a specialist. He was not mentally ill. He just needed something for his anxiety.
So not only was Dr. Lamb trying to get help for Alex, he was dealing with me bucking him on the whole mental health issue. But Dr. Lamb persisted. He expressed concern and worry that Alex needed special help. And he was right.
Dr. Lamb never gave up. His concern was for Alex and getting him the best care possible, even if it meant referring him to someone else. It has been a long two years. There have been many appointments with many different doctors, many medication changes, and weekly therapy. I am grateful for the trust and bond Alex has with Dr. Lamb. Through all of this Dr. Lamb has been one of Alex's greatest allies. Alex continues to see Dr. Lamb but sometimes it's just to talk.
“Alex wouldn’t talk to anybody but Dr. Lamb. He wouldn’t tell me what was going on or anything. Until he got committed the first time. That’s when I realized that Dr. Lamb probably saved his life.”
