From the beautiful view of the river to the relaxing whirlpool tubs, this is the perfect environment for welcoming your baby into the world.
Every person is unique and every birth experience is unique. That’s why Family Birth Care gives you many options:
- All-in-one suites accommodate both your baby’s birth and the family time that follows with a reclining twin bed, twin-sized sleeper sofa, TV, DVD player, refrigerator, microwave, whirlpool tub, spa shower and a special sink for bathing your baby.
- Deluxe suites offer the same amenities as our all-in-one suites, along with a living space for your family, a special meal for you and your partner and a gift basket for you. There is an additional nightly fee.
- C-section rooms are ready and waiting when Family Birth Care needs to handle planned or unplanned C-sections.
- Specialty care suites offer many of these same amenities but also allow us to better tend to any special needs you have before your delivery or after a C-section.
High-Risk Pregnancy and Neonatal Care
Sometimes newborns need added attention to thrive. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, a premature baby, or some other challenge, you can take comfort in knowing that ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah is in the same building as Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s Fox Valley hospital. Children’s has a level 3 nursery and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), ready with state-of-the-art equipment and expertise. It is affiliated with the same Milwaukee-based Children’s NICU team that was ranked #1 in the country by Parents magazine in 2013.

Designed with input from patients and medical staff, Family Birth Care at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton offers you the full range of care during delivery:

Postpartum suites encircle an airy nursery with windows on three sides, meaning your baby will never be far away as you rest and recover.
If Your Baby Needs Extra Care

Family Birth Care Classes
Becoming a parent is a wonderful, life-changing time, but there can be a lot to learn before you meet the new addition to your family. At times, it may feel overwhelming to think about what you need to know before you give birth, especially if this is your first time. That’s why ThedaCare offers prenatal classes to help you and your partner prepare for all the stages of parenthood, from labor and delivery to breastfeeding and baby care. Currently, ThedaCare is offering three types of classes: an in-person class, an at-home/self-paced educational program, and a hybrid option that combines the at-home/online educational program with a virtual one-time session.
Class type: At home/online education
This complete childbirth education program, which includes animated illustrations, videos, and interactive tools, takes you from pregnancy through the stages of labor, birth and recovery. The book also includes topics on comfort measures, medication options, and cesarean births. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering, along with directions on how to access the online information.
This childbirth education program, includes the same materials and resources as the Understanding Birth educational program but as an added bonus, participate in a 2 hour in-person class with a Childbirth Educator and a tour of the Family Birth Care. During class, parents will have the opportunity to review what they have learned, have their questions answered and practice breathing, positions and relaxation techniques. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering. Register at least three weeks prior to the session to ensure ample time for receiving and completing the book, online information and videos.
Class type: At home/online education with a one-time virtual session
This hybrid childbirth education program, includes the same materials and resources as the Understanding Birth educational program but also includes a one-time virtual session with a Childbirth Educator. In this virtual session, parents will have the opportunity to review what they have learned, have their questions answered and connect with other expectant parents. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering. Register at least three weeks prior to the session to ensure ample time for receiving and completing the book, online information and videos.
Class type: In-Person
This four-week evening series helps you understand the labor and delivery process, learn about relaxation and breathing strategies, pain management options, Cesarean birth, and immediate postpartum care. Meeting once a week for 2 hours gives you an opportunity to practice comfort measures, relaxation, labor positions, massage and breathing on a weekly basis. In addition, this multi-week format is ideal for building a sense of connection with classmates in a way shorter formats do not easily facilitate. (Class content at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton and ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah are identical. Not necessary to register for a class at the same location of your expectant delivery.)Class type: In-Person
If you don’t have time for a longer series of classes, you can learn everything you need to know in one session. Our day-long express class covers the stages of labor, the birth process, coping skills, relaxation and breathing techniques, pain management options, Cesarean birth, and immediate postpartum care. (Class content at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton and ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah are identical. Not necessary to register for a class at the same location of your expectant delivery.)Class type: At home/online education
The Understanding Breastfeeding at home/online educational program helps improve a mother’s chance for breastfeeding success. It is a complete, research-based program following the recommendations from the International Consultant Association (ILCA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Through step-by-step instructions and 3D animation, moms learn how to achieve a deep latch, comfortable breastfeeding holds, and how to maintain healthy milk production. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering, along with directions on how to access the online information.
Class type: At home/online education with a one-time virtual session
This hybrid breastfeeding education program, includes the same materials and resources as the Understanding Breastfeeding educational program but also includes a one-time virtual session with a certified lactation specialist. In this virtual session, parents will have the opportunity to review what they have learned, have their questions answered and learn about breast pump options, milk storage and back-to-work strategies. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering. Register at least three weeks prior to the session to ensure ample time for receiving and completing the book, online information and videos.
Class type: At home/online education with a one-time virtual session
This FREE book and one-time in-person session is offered to expectant parents delivering at ThedaCare-Berlin or live near Berlin.

Learning about pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are an important part of your journey but having multiples, adds a different element to your pregnancy and birth experience. Understanding Your Multiples is an app to supplement our other preparation classes. This program offers expectant parents further information about many of the aspects of multiple pregnancy and birth that are not covered in the standard preparatory classes. Once you register, an app code will be emailed to you. Please allow a day or two for the app code to show up in your inbox.
Class type: At home/online education
Your newborn’s arrival will bring many new questions. Education is the key to success and confidence. Prepare beforehand from the convenience of your own home. This at home class includes a book and access to online information to help answer questions about newborn behaviors and traits, diapering, nail care, newborn health, comforting a crying newborn and so much more. Parent receives a book in the mail about one week after registering.
Class type: Virtual
Wondering how to adjust to life with a newborn? In this class, a pediatric provider discusses common questions and issues facing new parents in their first months with a little one. Learn about newborn appearances, first visits with the doctor and general caring and feeding of your newborn. Questions are welcomed during the presentation. This is a free virtual class but registration is required.
Looking to make connections with other moms who have a new baby too? ThedaCare is happy to offer a Hybrid Mom and Me class for moms to support one another.
Network in a casual, in-person setting or virtually with other moms and hear guest speakers present topics relevant to new parents. Infant weight check available for in-person attendees and a lactation consultant presents most Mondays.
ThedaCare classes will be held weekly in the Ironwood Room at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton on Mondays from Noon-1:30pm. No fee. Registration not required unless joining virtually so a Zoom invite can be sent.A group for parents/caregivers of newborns and babies to foster new connections and relationships while allowing for open discussion of common parenting topics.
This Baby and Me group will meet 2 Wednesdays per month from 9:30am-10:30am. It will be held downstairs at the Waupaca Area Public Library.
This is a FREE class and registration is NOT required. Lactation specialist will be available to do baby weight checks.

Connect with other breastfeeding moms about the joys and challenges of breastfeeding. Share tips and offer encouragement in a safe forum with a lactation consultant present. This support group is offered the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 10:00-11:30am in the Legend Lake room which is located on the 2nd floor of ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. Registration is required. Please call (715) 526-7180 the morning you would like to attend. Masks are optional and just mom and her infant are allowed at this time.

Grandparents are an amazing resource for wisdom, support and encouragement for expecting and new parents. However, many grandparents discover that best practices for newborn care have evolved. Join us for a 1.5 hour class as we merge the knowledge of past generations with methods of the 21st Century in regards to safe sleep, skin on skin, swaddling, feeding, car seats and so much more.
