The recent Fox Valley Tornado’s have opened many eyes to the danger and destruction of severe weather.
Here are few items that you should know:
SIRENS- Weather warning sirens are meant to alert people that are outdoors to alarm you of an impending significant weather event. Sirens could be set off due to a Radar detected tornado, a trained weather spotter reporting a tornado or a thunderstorm with straight lined winds greater than 65 MPH. This can change depending on each counties protocols. If the sirens are going off it is in your best interest to seek shelter, NOT to go outside to see why they are sounding. People injured in a storm put our emergency workers at risk so please think of others not just yourself.
WEATHER RADIO – The best way to keep alert to weather is to use a NOAA weather radio in your home as well as sign up for local weather alerts on your cell phones.
MAKE A PLAN – Make sure you have a plan for you and your family in the case you need to come to work or are at work during a significant event. www.Ready.gov has a lot of really good planning information to help you.
