Certification Awarded for Superior Energy Performance
The ThedaCare Heritage Senior Living Residence has earned an Energy Star certification for superior energy performance.
The Heritage achieved a 95 Energy Star score at certification, putting it in the top 5 percent of comparable buildings nationwide. The Heritage Senior Living Residence is the first ThedaCare facility to receive Energy Star certification.
“High energy-performing buildings are more comfortable for building occupants and, as a result, demonstrate our commitment to patient and team member well-being,” said Jeanine Knapp, ThedaCare sustainability leader. “Our facilities team at Heritage and across ThedaCare focus on efficiency to ensure optimal living and healing environments for our guests and good stewardship of our resources.”
Energy Star certified buildings are verified to perform in the top 25 percent of buildings nationwide, based on weather-normalized source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation and other key metrics as directed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
“Forty-five percent of U.S. emissions are attributed to commercial and industrial buildings,” said Jean Lupinacci, Energy Star director for commercial and industrial buildings. “The Heritage continues to demonstrate true environmental leadership by reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions that are proven to contribute to climate change.”
On average, Energy Star certified buildings use 35 percent less energy, cause 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions and are less expensive to operate than their peers — all without sacrifices in performance or comfort, Knapp added.
“Saving energy is just one of the ways we show our community we care, and that we’re committed to doing our part to protect the environment and public health, both today and for future generations,” she said.
