Neenah Hospital Lone State Recipient of Gold Award of Hope
ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah is the only recipient of the University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation Gold Award of Hope.
The award recognizes the comprehensive work of hospitals that achieve or exceed the goals of the true donor conversion rate, which measures the percent of medically eligible donors that become donors, and organs transplanted per donor. To receive the gold award, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah had a true conversation rate of at least 75 percent and organs transplanted per donor rate average of 3.25.
Ray Georgen, MD, director of Trauma Center at ThedaCare Regional Center-Neenah, said the award recognizes everyone who plays a role in organ donation – families, hospital staff and physicians.
“The generosity of families who make the decision at a very difficult time to donate their loved one’s organs makes it possible for our hospital to earn a high conversion rate,” Dr. Georgen said. “Our staff members’ compassion and care to families during this emotional time also cannot be overlooked.”
UW Organ and Tissue Donation honored 10 hospitals in Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan with awards. Three hospitals received a silver award for a total conversion rate of more than 75 percent and six were honored for an organs transplanted per donor rate of 3.25 or higher.
“The clinical management of donors, coupled with a hospital’s compassionate support of donor families, are critical components to saving lives through the gift of organ donation and transplantation,” said Michael Anderson, executive director of UW Organ and Tissue Donation. “We honor these hospitals and their incredible physicians and nursing teams for working so hard to help ensure that those who are waiting for a transplant will get a second chance at life.”
