Danielle Greve is Right Where She is Supposed to Be

When Danielle Greve began working in oncology nursing, she says her career actually chose her. “My husband is a physical therapist and we were both looking for jobs at the same time,” she remembers. “He received a job offer from Community Health Network, and I noticed they had an opening for an oncology nurse. I applied for the position, interviewed and accepted the job that very day. And I’m so glad I did.”

Some might call it kismet, but however she ended up helping cancer patients at ThedaCare, Danielle believes she’s right where she’s supposed to be. Currently she works with ThedaCare Cancer Care, helping patients at ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center and Community Health Network/Berlin Memorial Hospital. She also does oncology outreach at ThedaCare Cancer Care in Waupaca.

Like other oncology nurses, Danielle cares for cancer patients. She monitors physical conditions, administers chemotherapy and other treatments. “It’s such a rewarding field,” said Danielle. “Cancer is something that impacts everyone in the family. We spend a great deal of time with patients and their families. We become part of a person’s life during one of the most difficult times in their lives.”

Danielle really enjoys helping her patients reach important milestones. “The best days are when our patients graduate from chemotherapy,” she continues. “We have a little ceremony for each person, clap for them and celebrate with them. Those are really great days.”

A bad day is when the team learns that a patient is moving into hospice. “Some days can be sad when you’re helping someone who has cancer, but for me the good days far outweigh the bad ones.”

One thing that makes each day just a little better is the support Danielle gets from her co-workers. “We have a great collaborative team at ThedaCare. We’re all here to make sure our patients have the best care, but we’re also here to support each other. It’s nice to be part of a team that works so well together.”
