Vision Coming to Fruition for City’s New Hospital
The people of Shawano are getting their first look at the initial site plan for the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. The new facility, expected to open late 2014 or early 2015, will replace the 82-year-old Shawano Medical Center and create a local center for convenient, coordinated health care.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see our vision coming to fruition,” said Dorothy Erdmann, CEO of Shawano Medical Center, upon unveiling the architectural drawing to staff at both ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano and SMC. “This is a preliminary idea of what our new medical center will look like, immediately adjacent and connected to the existing ThedaCare Physicians-Shawano clinic. The site plan is just the starting point for the detailed designs that show where each department will go in our new medical center.”
A wide group of Shawano-area citizens has given input on the design of the facility, including patients, community members, staff, the hospital board and the SMC Foundation board. More detailed design work will begin in May and final plans will be submitted to the Shawano Medical Center Board of Trustees and the ThedaCare Board of Trustees before ground is broken in late June. The Boldt Co. of Appleton is the project’s general contractor and construction manager. HGA Architects and Engineers of Milwaukee is the architect.
