High-Tech Suite at AMC Will Be for Complex Cardiac and Vascular Procedures
ThedaCare plans to construct and equip a new hybrid surgical suite at Appleton Medical Center in late 2015. Construction has started on the high-tech operating suite that will be used for vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and cardiac surgery.
According to Bill Boyd, ThedaCare Director of Perioperative Services Value Stream, surgeons will be able to more efficiently perform vascular and cardiac procedures on patients, especially in complex cases when new discoveries are made in the midst of a planned procedure. “Sometimes a patient may need teams from both traditional surgery and the cardiac catheterization lab. The hybrid approach means that we’ll be able to address each of the patient’s needs during one session with all of the necessary leading edge surgery, imaging and interventional equipment in one place.” Patients will be better served because some separate cardiovascular catheterization and surgical procedures will no longer need to be scheduled days or weeks apart, said Boyd. Complex cases will be treated close to home with specialists familiar to the patient and his or her family.
The $6 million hybrid surgery suite is being constructed on the northwest corner of Appleton Medical Center between the existing Groth Surgery Center and the Appleton Heart Institute. HGA and The Boldt Co. are the project architect and builder, respectively.
