John Story

When the intern moved my arm you could hear the crunching in my shoulder. When the X-ray came back it revealed that it was bone on bone. I was telling my doctor that I couldn’t do anything anymore.

Great doctor returned him to living a great life

“I’m back! Bow hunting, bowling, you name it. I can do it. I feel like a kid.”

When the intern moved my arm you could hear the crunching in my shoulder. When the X-ray came back it revealed that it was bone on bone. I was telling my doctor that I couldn’t do anything anymore. I couldn’t shower, I couldn’t even really shake someone’s hand. My quality of life was down to nothing. You have no idea what it’s like for someone like me when I’ve been active my entire life and now just about everything I did caused me pain. It first started years ago when I was playing fast pitch softball – my shoulders began to get sore and then kept getting worse. I knew something needed to be done. I made an appointment that afternoon to see Dr. Eric Erickson. He’s an orthopedic surgeon at ThedaCare in Appleton. The great thing about him is he calls it how it is. He said “You have three options: do nothing, do nothing or get a shoulder replacement.” I didn’t even know you could get a shoulder replacement. Well, the first two weren’t an option. The surgery was an amazing success and Dr. Erickson was the best. Super easy to work with, a great surgeon and to be honest, just a great guy.

“Dr. Erickson is the greatest guy. I’ve recommended five people to him. You don’t just recommend anybody with stuff like that. It’s my reputation on the line, too.”
