Two ThedaCare physicians were recently recognized for their dedication to patients and families, and mentoring those who will soon become caregivers.
Eric Winkel, DO, an Internal Medicine Hospitalist at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton was awarded the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency and Mosaic Family Health’s “Outstanding Physician Teacher Award”. David Schiedermayer, M.D., a Hospice & Palliative Care Physician at ThedaCare, was awarded the Special Recognition of Teaching and Mentorship Contribution award.
The doctors were nominated by Family Medicine resident physicians from Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency and Mosaic Family Health who do various rotations at local hospitals.
In June, seven residents completed their three-year Family Medicine Residency Program. During their graduation program, they honored local physicians and nurses they feel have made outstanding contributions to their education.
“For me, this award is a terrific validation that the residents and students are learning every single day, gaining valuable experience,” said Dr. Winkel. “It also shows me that they are having as much fun learning how to provide the best care possible, as I am in the teaching role. The residents and students keep me on my toes, and provide me a strong infusion of the idealism that every doctor starts out with in their career.”
Dr. Winkel earned his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He then switched paths and pursued his medical degree at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has co-authored multiple medical publications and served as a research assistant.
Dr. Schiedermayer is set to retire soon. He provided specialized medical care for those living with serious illness. He received his medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin and has more than three decades of medical experience.
