Pregnancy Care Billing Changes in 2027: What to Expect

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Preparing for a new baby comes with plenty of questions. Understanding your healthcare costs should not add extra stress.

Beginning in 2027, you may notice some changes in how pregnancy care services are billed. As your trusted healthcare partner, we’ve created this FAQ to help explain what these changes mean and what you can expect.

Pregnancy Care Billing Changes FAQ

What is changing?

Starting Jan. 1, 2027, pregnancy care visits and services will be billed individually as you receive care. In the past, pregnancy care typically was billed together as one bundled claim after delivery. This change is part of a nationwide update supported by the American Medical Association. It’s designed to better align billing with the care provided throughout pregnancy and offer greater visibility into the services being billed.

What does this mean for me?

Because services will be billed as you receive them, you may notice more explanation of benefits statements from your insurance provider during your pregnancy. If you have had pregnancy care in the past, billing may look different this time. Previously, prenatal visits generally were included in the final bill after delivery, while services such as lab work, sonograms and other tests were billed separately as they were performed.

While billing may look different, your care will not change. You will continue to receive the same high-quality, personalized care throughout your pregnancy.

Will I pay more with this new billing process?

Your out-of-pocket costs will depend on your individual insurance plan. Some people may notice little to no change, while others may see costs applied differently throughout their pregnancy.

If you have questions about your coverage, deductible, copay or coinsurance, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly.
