What to Expect at Your Initial ThedaCare Bariatrics Class

Last updated: May 24, 2024

Weight loss surgery can transform people’s lives and health in powerful ways. At the same time, choosing to pursue surgery is a life-altering decision.

ThedaCare Bariatrics offers a comprehensive program and support to guide people through the experience. From decision-making to preparing for surgery to the procedure itself to a lifetime of support afterward, our team is here for you.

Your Initial Class

As you consider weight loss surgery, you may have questions about the lead-up to surgery. Attending an initial class is one part of learning more about and preparing for surgery. You’ll do so after you submit your insurance information.

“This is a commitment-free class designed for you to understand your individualized path to surgery, based on your insurance and medical history,” says Andrea Wolff, Manager of Weight Wellness and Bariatrics for ThedaCare.

What to Expect

In the class, you’ll meet a bariatric dietitian, exercise physiologist, and care manager. They’ll help you learn about the lifestyle changes involved with weight loss surgery.

Preparing for class is simple:

  1. Watch the ThedaCare Bariatrics overview video, and come to class with questions. To watch the video, visit thedacare.org/services/weight-loss-solutions/weight-loss-surgery and scroll to ‘Hear from the Experts.’
  2. Complete the two-part questionnaire that goes to your MyThedaCare account.
  3. Arrive 20 minutes before class to allow for time to check in.

Once you complete the class, you’ll receive a personalized surgery checklist and learn about next steps.

The ThedaCare Bariatrics team wishes you well and looks forward to working with you.
