Connected For Kids – The Nieuwenhuis Family

Last updated: September 3, 2024

Everything was progressing normally in Jen’s pregnancy. Later, though, an ultrasound revealed some concerns, and after baby Lexi was born, Jen and husband Jacob began to suspect the newborn may have health concerns. Jen and Jacob turned to their daughters’ ThedaCare pediatrician, Dr. Jennifer Szmanda, to help guide them through Lexi’s care. Jen and Jacob went on to learn that their youngest daughter had contracted a virus in utero and developed congenital CMV, which can lead to birth defects. This led them to Connected for Kids, a partnership between ThedaCare, Children’s Wisconsin and Bellin Health, bringing advanced care for kids closer to home. Learn how each partner organization plays an essential role, directly benefiting patients.
