Health Inspired Talk: Colorectal Cancer Awareness

Last updated: March 25, 2026

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s an important time to talk about a disease that remains one of the most common cancers. While colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer, it is also one of the most preventable and treatable when detected early.

In this episode of Health Inspired Talk, two experts from ThedaCare share what people should know about colorectal cancer, including symptoms, risk factors, prevention and the importance of screening.

First, Joseph Bovi, Radiation Oncologist with ThedaCare Cancer Care, explains what colorectal cancer is and shares key facts in a helpful 4-3-2-1 countdown, covering common symptoms, major risk factors and why screening is the most important step people can take to prevent the disease.

Then, Maria Rossi, Family Medicine Physician with ThedaCare Physicians-Menasha, addresses common questions and concerns patients have about screening, including who should be screened, the different testing options available and what to expect from a colonoscopy.

You’ll learn:

  • Common symptoms of colorectal cancer
  • Risk factors and lifestyle considerations
  • Why diagnoses are increasing in younger adults
  • Screening guidelines and prevention tips
  • What to expect from a colonoscopy

If you’re 45 or older, talk with your primary care provider about colorectal cancer screening: my.thedacare.org.
