Update to Acute Stroke Treatment

Timely treatment of ischemic stroke is key for improving patient outcomes. As of April, there is a new treatment for acute stroke – Tenecteplase.
Tenecteplase is a thrombolytic medication that can be used for the treatment of acute stroke for patients that arrive within 4.5 hours of the last known well and meet the eligibility criteria. This medication has been shown to have a higher recanalization rate and lower risk of bleeding compared to Alteplase (tPA). Tenecteplase is administered as a 5 second injection, with a flush before and after! There is more education about Tenecteplase available on the LMS and the Pharmacy website.
